One False Move

A trio of thieves (Billy Bob Thornton, Cynda Williams, Michael Beach) commit a multiple homicide in Los Angeles and hit the road for a small midwest town, where a local police chief (Bill Paxton) with an itch for the big time waits to nab them. Directed by Carl Franklin and co-written by Thornton and Tom Epperson, One False Move begins as a promising suspense-thriller, but soon gives way to slow-burn drama as the secrets and lies of the leading characters are gradually uncovered. Paxton is excellent as the unsophisticated backwater cop who will do anything to get that one big arrest, and Williams, who finds herself caught between Paxton and her cohorts, is also compelling. While the plot is a bit slow paced at points, many will find One False Move worth the effort. Good transfer, Dolby 2.0, commentary with Franklin, trailer.
