Killer's Kiss

A nowhere boxer gets mixed up with a bad-luck dame and inherits her troubles. Stanley Kubrick's undistinguished original film-noir gives little inkling of the genius to come. Short on dialogue, this 1955 movie set on the tough streets of New York is blissfully short (only 67 minutes), but still manages to try the patience. Kubrick seems more interested in experimenting with oddball montage sequences than in his characters. The film is saved by a terrific, bizarre fight sequence in a mannequin warehouse. Nothing else that occurs is of any great interest or consequence. Starring Jamie Smith, Irene Kane, and Frank Silvera, all of whom come off well, if a bit dull. Presented in its original standard 1.33:1 aspect ratio and 1.0 mono from a clean source print. Trailer, keep-case.
