The Eiger Sanction

Based on the novel by Trevanian, Clint Eastwood directs and stars as Dr. Anthony Hemlock, a secret agent who is requested to climb a mountain with three other men, find out which is an assassin, and "sanction" him. The plot is routine spy stuff at best, but Eastwood's insistence on shooting the climbing sequences on location (and doing all of his own climbing) provides breathtaking results. It's too bad Columbia TriStar couldn't come up with a better transfer, because this disc is loaded with so much shimmer we're dizzy. Rent it.
