As Good As It Gets

When it comes to this Oscar-winning crowd-pleaser, I know I'm in the minority — but I didn't like it all that much. This story about an obsessive-compulsive novelist, a gay artist, and a single-mom waitress who are thrown together in unusual circumstances promised more than it really delivered. Helen Hunt was fine to watch, but Jack Nicholson's lost his three-iron and Greg Kinnear's character was such a stereotype that I might offended if I was gay. Like a made-for-TV "dramedy", the action deteriorated from playful dialogue into a torrent of self-righteous, long-winded speeches, all of which made me feel like I was socially obligated to like As Good As It Gets more than I really did. Rent it and decide for yourself.
